A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late George and Alma McCracken Maupin. Mr. Maupin was the retired owner/operator of Maupin Exxon and a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Tennessee National Guard, the Civil Air Patrol, having served in Operation Desert Storm. Mr. Maupin was a 32nd Degree Mason with Dashiel Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM and was a Shriner. He was a former member of the Elizabethton City Council. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Caytie Maupin of Elizabethton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosanne and Pat Slay of Nashville and Jenifer and John Reichle of Scottsboro, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Ella, Lucy and Gib Maupin, all of Elizabethton, Zach, Kyla, Skylar and Troy Reichle, all of Scottsboro, Ala.; the mother of his children, Janice Maupin of Elizabethton; a brother, Bob Maupin of Kingsport; a special aunt, Rebecca Simerly of Elizabethton; and a special friend, Norma Weaver of Johnson City. Several other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Maupin will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Seals officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Jamie Schaff, soloist. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Harvey Van Dyke, Dr. E.E. Perry, Bill Schaff, Jerry Pearman, Lynn Kyker, Phil Maupin, Chris Maupin and Harold Carter. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the funeral service, or at the residence of his son and daughter-in- law, 801 Quail Ridge Court, Elizabethton, at anytime.
