Meredith Jean Chesser Meredith, 75, died on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. She was born March 21, 1931, to Luther and Cartha Stephens Chesser. She was the longest living member of Gap Creek Christian Church at the time of her death. She was active in the Ladies Circle. She was a 1949 graduate of Happy Valley High School, where she was a member of the girl's basketball team. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Max Meredith, Oct. 25, 2003, and an infant sister, Carla Lynn Chesser, March 17, 1944. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Rick and Rosemary Meredith, Elizabethton, and Russell Meredith, Johnson City; two grandsons, John David Meredith, Elizabethton, and Triston Lacy, Roan Mountain; a niece and nephew, Joi Meredith Dance and Ed and his wife, Cyndie Dance, all of Piney Flats; one great-nephew, Alex Dance, Piney Flats; two aunts, Margaret Manning, Elizabethton, and Ruth Stephens, Jonesborough. Several cousins and three special family friends, Anthony and Karen Lyons and Bud McKeehan, all of Elizabethton, also survive. Funeral service for Jean Chesser Meredith will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, with Mr. Leon Langston and Mr. Ray Giles, ministers presiding. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Bobbie McGee, soloist. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John David Meredith, Alex Dance, Ed Dance, Anthony Lyons, Larry Miller and Bud McKeehan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, or friends may call at the residence of a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Rosemary Meredith, 305 Ridgecrest Avenue, Elizabethton, at any time. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gap Creek Christian Church, 1840 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the Debt Retirement Fund at Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
