John P. Morton Rev. John P. Morton, 87, 150 Ken Carver Road, Unicoi, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Will and Essie Murray Morton. Rev. Morton was retired from Gordon's Furniture and the U.S. Forestry Service. He attended the Holiness Church and had served as a minister for several years. Rev. Morton served in the United States Air Force during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean Morton, twin grandsons, Billy Jack and Bobby Joe Morton, a sister and a brother. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Sr. and Mildred Morton, Unicoi; a grandson and his wife, Larry and Amy Morton, Hampton; three great- grandchildren; two sisters, Ella Jay Tolley, Hampton, and Erma Wright, Elizabethton; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Luther and Ruby Morton, Elizabethton, and D.C. and Betty Morton, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Rev. Morton will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dexter Brummitt, Rev. Bill Greer and Rev. Steve Cochran officiating. Graveside services and interment will be Thursday, March 13, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Larry Morton Jr., Teddy Morton, Jackie Paul Smith, Scott Woodby, Eddie Morton, Curtis Morton, Mike Morton and Julius Tolley Jr. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post #2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the nurses and staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Jack and Edna Smith, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his son, Larry Morton Sr., 150 Ken Carver Road, Unicoi.
