CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ruby S. Manning, 22 Sep 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Ruby S. Manning, 87, Pine Ridge Health Care, died there Wednesday, September 22, 2004 following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Thurman Wilborn and Bessie Mae Stepp Scott. Mrs. Manning had been a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton for 50 years. She was teacher and director of the beginner's class. She was honored as Woman of the Year at First Christian for her service in Sunday school. She was also named as Woman of Faith. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George David Manning and a son, Gerald Pierce.Mrs. Manning is survived by a daughter, Susie Manning, Elizabethton; two granddaughters and their spouses, Deanna and Scott Hood; Sherri and Rick Baker, all of Elizabethton; two great- grandchildren, Chase Baker and Hayley Hood, both of Elizabethton; one brother, Wayne Scott, Unicoi; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Johnny Holder, Elizabethton, and one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Colbaugh, Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and special friends Kay Van Dyke, Patricia Guinn, Edna Donnelly and her family and family dog, "Bubba" also survive. The funeral service for Ruby S. Manning will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2004 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Don Marshall and Rev. Brent Nidiffer officiating. Music will be under the direction of John and Mary Smith and Gene Estep. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2004 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2004 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home and at other times at the home of a granddaughter, Deanna Hood, 273 Hart Rd., Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are friends at First Christian Church, the beginner's class, the Winsome class and the Volunteer Circle of First Christian Church. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Youth Department of First Christian Church, 513 Hattie Ave., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
