CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - James B. Mathes, 14 Jan 2005 ----¤¤¤---- James B. Mathes, age 78, Sunrise Drive, Elizabethton, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Greene County, he was a lifelong resident of Carter County. Mr. Mathes was a son of the late Willard Earl and Anna Maude Drain Mathes. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired millwright mechanic from Fluor Daniels Construction Company. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathes was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Myrtle Byers Mathes, on May 13, 1995, and one brother, Roy Mathes. Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Nancy Mathes, Elizabethton, and Willie and Nancy Mathes, Johnson City; five grandchildren, Marie Range, Jonesborough, Chris Mathes, Freeport, Bahamas, Tim Mathes, Nashville, James E. Mathes, Gate City, Va., and Becky Mathes, Elizabethton; seven great-grandchildren, three sisters, Wanda King, Joy Buckles, and Faye Walsh, all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Bill Mathes, Elizabethton, and Bob Mathes, Greeneville; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Alma Williamson, Elizabethton. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with the Rev. Bobby Stout and the Rev. Ron Goss officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Brotherhood Quartet. The committal service and entombment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in the Mausoleum of Hope of Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the funeral home chapel at 1:15 p.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday prior to the service or at other times at the home of a son, Jackie Mathes, 212 West G Street, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Byers, Bert Mathes, Donnie Peters, Freddie Peters, Charles Hamilton, Norman Simerly, Lyn Holland, Travis Mathes, Gary Mathes, and Joe Buckles. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Hamilton, Arlee Webb, Jim Randolph, Frank Williams, Russ Zell, David Buckles, Freddie Elijah, Joel Elijah, Dick Clark, George Williamson, Don Powell, Clyde Peters, Cy Tester, Gordon Holland, Ricky Holland, Matt Simerly, John Cyphers, Jeff Cyphers, Shawn Bright, Robert Workman, Dr. H.
