Mathis 10/04/99 Gladys Marie Guess Mathis, 82, 609 North Pine Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of Charlie and Matilda Floyd Guess. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Fatty” Mathis, in 1986, and by several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Mathis was of the First Free Will Baptist Faith and a retired employee of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law: Billy and Sue Mathis, Barry and Kay Mathis, and Mickey Mathis, all of Elizabethton; Roger Mathis, Johnson City; three daughters and sons-in-law: Penny and John Magee, Brenda and Glen Bare, Johnson City; and Patsy and Richard Dykes, Elizabethton; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ruth Guess, Elizabethton; one sister, Francis Guess, Elizabethton; Twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, a special daughter, Judy Deloach, and special friends, Agnes West, Betty Pressley, Virgie Taylor, Hazel Plemons, Edith Simerly and Mary Cable also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. MATHIS — Funeral services for Gladys Marie Guess Mathis, 82, 609 North Pine Street, Elizabethton, who died Friday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Nick Bradshaw and the Rev. Ken Hauser officiating. Music will be provided by Jerry Barnett, soloist, and David Arney, organist. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons: Scotty Bare, Gary Bare, Travis Magee, Chris, Dykes, Jackie Mathis, Tim Carr, Johnny Mathis and Mark Denny. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. D. Tabor, Dr. R. Mills, Dr. Z. Blaik, Dr. R. Grindstaff, employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, third floor nurses at Sycamore Shoals Hospital and friends and neighbors on Pine Street. A special thank you to a special daughter, Judy Deloach. Everyone will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday at Tetrick Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday evening at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, or at the residence of her daughter, Brenda Bare, 134 Roberts Lane, Johnson City, or at any of the other children’s homes at any time.
