Mr. May was a native of Carter County and the son of the late James and Rebecca Crowe May. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Bell Grindstaff May, March 11, 1999, a son-in-law, Robert Mick, a brother, Frank May Sr., and four sisters, Virginia Morris, Nell Norris, Molly Munnerlyn and Julie May. Mr. May was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. He was retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 40 years of service as a Coning Inspector. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Judy May, Elizabethton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Mick, Elizabethton, Patricia and Guy DiFranco, Tunis, Tunisia, and Ina and Joe Briggs, Elizabethton; and six grandchildren, Ruth Morelock, Johnson City, Brian Edward Briggs, Gaithersburg, Md., Bruce Mick, Elizabethton, Tonya Milam, Elizabethton, Remi Flaherty, Summerset, S.C., and Christie Briggs, East Meadow, N.Y. Visit our Web site at www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick MAY -- Funeral services for John "Ed" May, 89, Pine Ridge Care Center, formerly of 143 Zeb Grindstaff Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, September 27, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, September 30, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with the Rev. Burl Garland, the Rev. Clate Briggs Jr. and Mr. Glen Keller, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by his grandchildren. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 1, at Combs- Grindstaff Cemetery, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Brian Briggs, Bruce Mick, Eddie Morelock, Chuck Milam, Chad Flaherty, Robert Perry, George Lily and Wade Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class of Hunter First Baptist Church, the family of Frank May Sr., J.C. and Wilma Honeycutt, Fred and Cleo Taylor, employees of Pine Ridge Care Center, Harold Stoler, the family of Elbert Clemons, Denton Lyons and Orville Grindstaff. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Ina Briggs, 145 Zeb Grindstaff Road, Elizabethton, at any time.
