McElyea Rosy Belle McElyea, lovingly known by many as Nanny Belle, 78, 2004 West G. Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at her residence after a brief illness. Mrs. McElyea was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Jason and Orlie Bowers Proffitt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene McElyea, September 30, 1980, and a brother, Gilbert Proffitt. Mrs. McElyea was a member of Siam Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Frank Shipley, Maryville, and Linda and David Shouse, Elizabethton; four grandchildren and spouses, Kristi and Mike Moore, Maryville, Chip and Stefanie Shipley, Louisville, Gena Byrd, Elizabethton, and David and Stephani Shouse, Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren, Jacinda and Haley Moore, both of Maryville, and Devin Byrd, Elizabethton; a sister, Annie Proffitt, Elizabethton; and a sister-in-law, Edna Proffitt, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Street, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, February 13, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 15, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Music will be under the direction of Cathy Wilson, Billy Anderson and Kay Arnold. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 16, at Pierce Cemetery, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Anthony Byrd, Bob Wilson, Andy Wilson, Grayson Richardson, Randy Singleton, David Bennett, Buddy Farmer, Doug Bailey, John Rednour and Kenny Childers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kay Arnold, Johnson City Medical Center Hospice Nurses, Dr. Mary Hooks, Dr. Fawwaz Hamati and J.D. Anderson. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Linda Shouse, 2002 West G. Street, Elizabethton, any time.
