CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Jeanette McKinney, 18 Mar 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Jeanette McKinney Jeanette McKinney, 71, McKinney Hollow Road, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. McKinney was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Coy and Mollie Simerly Smith. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Gail Hunt, and two brothers, Benny Smith and Junior Smith. Mrs. McKinney attended Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church. She was a former cook at Cloudland Elementary School, Roan Mountain, for the Carter County School System. Survivors include her husband, Gene McKinney, of the home; a daughter, Treasa Anderson, Jonas Ridge, N.C.; a son-in-law, Jack Anderson, Sugar Mountain, N.C.; a son, Tim McKinney, Roan Mountain; a sister and brother- in-law, Brenda and Don Landis, Huntersville, N.C.; three brothers, Joe Smith and friend, Ethel Roberson, Roan Mountain, Bill Smith and Randy Smith and his wife Bobbie, all of Huntersville, N.C.; a grandson, Dustin Eggers, Jonas Ridge, N.C.; and a special friend, Marie Powell, Roan Mountain. Ronnie Peterson and the Rev. Norman Lovelace officiating. Music was under the direction of the Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church Singers. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from the men of Crabtree Free Will Baptist Church and Jack Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Roan Mountain, members of the Carter County Rescue Squad, Billy Glen Johnson, Johnny Ledford, Danny Miller, Kenneth Vance, John Vance, Stan Daniels, the nursing staff of Adventa Hospice, Warren Ledford and a numerous amount of friends. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, at 9 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain.
