CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Delestine Winters McKinney, 3 Aug 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Delestine Winters McKinney Delestine Winters McKinney, 79, Perkins Hollow Road, Roan Mountain, died Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. McKinney was a native of Elk Park, N.C., and the daughter of the late Corbett Winters and Nina Greene Parish. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Howard McKinney; a sister, Marie Kegg; a brother, George Winters; and a grandson, Joseph Mark Perry. Mrs. McKinney was a member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Carolyn McKinney and the Rev. Jeff and Wanda McKinney, all of Roan Mountain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and R.C. Brown, Minneapolis, N.C., and Evenell and Joe Perry, Banner Elk, N.C.; a sister, Dorothy Roland, Newland, N.C.; two half brothers, Bobby Winters, Hampton, and Jimmy Jones, Holden Beach, N.C.; two half sisters, Leslie Honeycutt, Morganton, N.C., and Doris Birchfield, Harrisburg, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece and nephew, Pauline and Conley Shell, Roan Mountain. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. John Stevens and the Rev. Keith Gwyn officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Melody Trio. The family will receive friends at the Rhododendron Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home of a son, the Rev. Jeff McKinney, 104 Ellis Hollow Road, Roan Mountain. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 7, at Richardson Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be R.L. Jones, Sam McKinney, Randy Howell, Gene Howell and Gerald Jones. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:25 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
