CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Marie B. McNeely, 2 Apr 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Mrs. Marie B. McNeely, 73, Echo Drive, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. McNeely was a native of Cookeville, Tenn. (Putman County), and the daughter of the late Sheliah and Maureen Johnson Braswell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Braswell, and a sister, Ruth Randolph. Mrs. McNeely had lived in Carter County since 1968. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton for 38 years, where she taught Sunday School for many years in the King's Daughters Class and was a member of the Chancel Choir and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. McNeely retired from Citizens Bank of Elizabethton in 1996 after 28 years of service as assistant Trust Officer and Loan Review Officer. She was a member of the Elizabethton Community Choir. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, D.E. McNeely Sr., of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David E. and Renee McNeely, Elizabethton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Danny Garst, Alpharetta, Ga., and Jane McNeely, Johnson City; four grandchildren, David McNeely III , Blacksburg, Va., Wilton McNeely, Knoxville, Alexandra McNeely and Tricia McNeely, both of Johnson City; three sisters, Betty Harris and Jean Herrin, both of Cookeville, and Loretta Inglis, Arrington, Tenn.; and two brothers, Paul Braswell and Hubert Braswell, both of Cookeville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. McNeely will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. Music will be provided by the Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church under the direction of David and Becky Hale and also Wilton McNeely, grandson, as soloist. The committal service and entombment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, in the Chapel of the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be David E. McNeely III and Wilton H. McNeely, her grandsons, and Robert Y. Oaks, Ted Weaver, Keith McNeely, Jim McNeely, Tom McNeely, Patrick McNeely, Mark Cole and Richard C. Tetrick. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence, 182 Echo Drive, Elizabethton, at anytime. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Mrs. McNeely to the Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church, 325 East C Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Those planning to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
