CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mabel Louise McCoury, 17 Jun 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Mabel L. McCoury Mabel Louise McCoury, age 85, formerly of U.S. Highway 19E, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Pine Ridge Care Center, Elizabethton following a lengthy illness. Mrs. McCoury was a Carter County native and the daughter of the late Stokes and Nora Caldwell Freeman. She was a member of Roan Mountain First Baptist Church. Mrs. McCoury was a housewife and former employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Freeman, Roy Freeman, James Freeman, and a sister, Ethel Stout. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Bynum McCoury, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Dean and Kathy McCoury, of Marianna, Fla.; Bynum Jerry and Sherry McCoury, of Roan Mountain; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley Mae Dickason, of Virginia Beach, Va.; Lavana Sue and Mike Smith, of Memphis; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; a special niece and her daughter, Martha Shook and Christina, both of Banner Elk, N.C.; three special cousins, Mildred Stout, of Canton, Ohio; Marybelle Lyons, of Roan Mountain, and Marie Hagie, of Roan Mountain. Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, is in charge of arrangements. MCCOURY -- The funeral service for Mabel Louise McCoury, age 85, formerly of U.S. Highway 19E, Roan Mountain who died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Pine Ridge Care Center, Elizabethton will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain with Pastor Richard Stout and Pastor Gary Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2003 at Freeman Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Storie, Jim Storie, Bobby McCoury, Rudy Johnson, Wayne Hagie, Dana Dean Young, Rudy Campbell, Tull Oaks, Jr. and Dillard Shell. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemtery at 10:55 a.m. on Friday. A special thank you to the staff of Pine Ridge Care Center, and Dr. James Wilson and the staff of Johnson City Urological Clinic and Adventa Hospice of Elizabethton for their care and support.
