CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Verna Helen McQueen, 12 Apr 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Verna H. McQueen Verna Helen McQueen, 83, 825 N. Roan Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, April 12, 2003 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Will and Tilda Peters Taylor. She was a retired employee of Beaunit Fibers. Mrs. McQueen was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley A. McQueen; a son-in-law, James Cook; four sisters and three brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Cook, 825 N. Roan Street, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed "P.I." and Joyce Williams, of Merritt Island, Fla., and Albert "Pete" and Judy Taylor, 204 Clay Little Road, Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Joanie Laws, Angie Brett, Rebecca Rodgers, Risha Reke, Jason Taylor and Jeff Taylor; and eight great grandchildren. Two special nieces and their husbands, Sonja and Jack Cole, and Oaklee and Jack Glass also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. MCQUEEN -- Graveside services for Mrs. Verna Helen McQueen, 83, 825 N. Roan Street, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, April 12, 2003, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday will be Jason Taylor, Jeff Taylor, David Lindley, Larry Taylor, Charles McQueen, F.D. Elliott, and Randy Brett. Honorary pallbearers will be employees and staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Dr. David Fenner, and June Jones. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.
