CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Tony Max Meredith, 25 Oct 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Tony M. Meredith Tony Max Meredith, 73, Milligan Highway, Johnson City, died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Meredith was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Deward Edward "Ed" and Beatrice Hyder Meredith. Mr. Meredith was a retired truck driver with Refrigerated Transport, Jonesboro, Ga., and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member and deacon of Gap Creek Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Jean Chesser Meredith, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rick and Rosemary Meredith, Elizabethton, and Russell Meredith, Johnson City; a grandson, John David Meredith, Johnson City; a sister, Leah Jo Dance, Elizabethton; a niece, Joi Dance West, Johnson City; a nephew, Ed Dance, Johnson City; and one aunt, Ossie Meredith, Elizabethton. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, October 27, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Roy Hampton and Mr. Rocky S. Maines, ministers, officiating. Music will be by Bobby McGee, soloist, and Rosemary Meredith, pianist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Ron Owens assisting at the graveside. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside service by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Anthony Lyons, William "Bud" McKeehan, Harley Farrell, Ed Dance, Martin Meredith, Mac Merritt, Larry Miller and John Meredith. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Gap Creek Christian Church, employees of Carter County Motor Company and Dr. Richard Bowie, Larry Meredith, Gary Meredith, Carroll Meredith, Tommy Meredith and his many friends. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church, Challenge to Build Fund, 1114 Broad Street Ext., Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the Gap Creek Christian Church, Building Fund, 1840 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Friends may call at the residence at anytime. Friends may also call at the residence of a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Rosemary Meredith, 305 Ridgecrest Drive, Elizabethton.
