CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Nell Stewart Merritt, 30 Apr 2004

Mrs. Nell Stewart Merritt, 75, Humphries Lane, Johnson City, died 
Friday, April 30, 2004, at Johnson City Medical Center.  Mrs. Merritt 
was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Thomas and 
Ina Shaw Stewart. She was also preceded in death by a brother and 
two sisters.

Mrs. Merritt was a homemaker. 

Survivors include her husband, Howard Charles Merritt, of the home; a 
son, Larry Merritt, Elizabethton; two daughters, Vivian Newman, 
Madisonville, Tenn., and Linda Conner Parker, Johnson City; five 
grandchildren, Mike Merritt, Kenneth Merritt and Diane Dugger, all of 
Elizabethton, Sarah Newman, Madisonville, Tenn., and Ricky Conner, 
Johnson City; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mack Stewart, 
Butler, James Stewart, Johnson City, and Franklin Stewart, Kingsport; 
three sisters, Marcella "Sue" Combs, Jonesborough, Margaret Way and Anita 
"Pauline" Stewart, both of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also 
survive. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in the Sunset 
Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Koruschak, minister, 
officiating. Music will be by David Arney, organist. Graveside services 
and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 3, at Happy Valley Memorial 
Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. 
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Baker, David Stewart, Michael Britt, 
Jim Newman, Pat Parker and Billy Merritt. The family will receive friends 
at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Everyone will meet at the 
cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Monday. Online condolences may be sent to the
