CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Dr. Harold H. Mills, 10 Mar 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Dr. Harold H. Mills, 87, 131 Highway 91, Elizabethton, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Dr. Mills was a native of Artemus, Ky., and the son of the late Sawyer A. and Fannie Marsee Mills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Dr. Mills graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and was a 1949 graduate of Northern Illinois College of Optometry. He moved to Elizabethton in 1950 where he served his community as an Optometrist for 51 years. He attended First Christian Church of Elizabethton. Dr. Mills was a member of the Elizabethton Lions Club, the American Optometric Association and the Northeast Tennessee Optometric Association. He was a longtime Director of Elizabethton Federal Savings and Loan. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lois Gibson Mills, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Carla Mills, Dr. David and Cathy Mills and Bobby and Cheryl Mills, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Larry Saylor, Sanford, N.C.; a brother, Dr. Buell Mills, Palm Harbor, Fla.; four granddaughters, Caytie Mills Maupin, Marla Mills, Meg Mills and Stephanie Hammitt, two grandsons, Hannon Howard and Brandon Saylor; and seven great-grandchildren, Holston Howard, Tyler Saylor, Aulston McCurry, Ella Maupin, Lucy Maupin, Christina Hammitt and Damon Hammitt. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Dr. Mills will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at the First Christian Church of Elizabethton with Mr. Don Marshall and Mr. Brent Nidiffer officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jerry Barnett, soloist, and Gene Estep, organist. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be his three sons, Johnny Mills, Dr. David Mills and Bobby Mills, his son-in-law, Larry Saylor, and Richard Moody, Don McKeehan and Floyd Storie. Honorary pallbearers will be the past and present employees and directors of Elizabethton Federal Savings and Loan, Victor and Judy DeLoach and the caring staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, and all the patients and friends in this extended community who were touched by his goodness. The family will receive friends at First Christian Church of Elizabethton from 5 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, or at the residence, 131 Highway 91, Elizabethton, at anytime.
