'Ab' Morgan, 87, formerly of 121 Watson Avenue, Roan Mountain, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in the Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Rosencrance and Dovie Winters Morgan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Josie L. Morgan, Feb. 9, 1998; a son, Fred A. Morgan, Jr.; four brothers, Clifford, Thomas, Edward, and Dallas Morgan; and three sisters, Betty Clipse, Stella Clipse and Goldie Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a member of the Roan Mountain United Methodist Church and a retired foreman of the Tennessee Highway Department. He was mostly known for being a watch maker. Survivors include a son, Wayne Morgan, Roan Mountain; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Patsy and L.D. Grindstaff, Elk Park, N.C.; Earline and Elmer Haynes, Roan Mountain; and Beulah Tripp, Clear Lake, Calif.; one brother, Nelson Morgan, Roan Mountain; one sister, Shirley Jean Tipton, Erwin; nine grandchildren and spouses, Mark Haynes, Missy and Mike Boone, Dee and Candi Haynes, Randy and Melinda Grindstaff, and Sheila and Tony Townsend, all of Roan Mountain; Leslie, Billy and Timothy Decker and Beth Davis, all of Santa Rose Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren, Jessica and Andrew Grindstaff, Ashley Morgan, Allison and Dawson Haynes, all of Roan Mountain; Jeremy, Holly, Brandon, Anton and Robin Decker, Daniell and Julian Strampello, all of Santa Rosa, Calif. "Ab" Morgan, 87, formerly of 121 Watson Avenue, Roan Mountain, who died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in the Roan Highlands Nursing Center, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the Revs. Randy English and David Arnett officiating. Music will be provided by friends and family. Private disposition will be held at a later date. Honorary: The family respectfully claim his family at Roan Highlands Nursing Center as members of their family, administration and nursing staff, especially Connie Gibson and Lisa Gourley, Donna, Lillie, Teresa, Becky and all residents and family members. A special thanks to Dr. David Moulton and Dr. Wesley Hanson and the Johnson City Medical Center 6300 nursing staff.
