Morgan Charles J. Morgan, 92, of Stockton Residential Home, Roan Mountain, formerly of 218 Stuarts Street, Roan Mountain, died Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at Stockton Residential Home following a brief illness. Mr. Morgan was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County and the son of the late James and Sallie Ledford Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maxie Garland Morgan, in 1989, and a son, Lewis Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a retired bus mechanic with the Carter County School System. He was the oldest living member of Roan Mountain United Methodist Church and was a founding member of the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cleta and Larry Stidhoms and Sallie and Richard Buckner, all of Roan Mountain; a half-sister, Ruth Mosley, Roan Mountain; and a granddaughter, Alisa Winebarger, Boone, N.C. Several nieces and nephews and the residents and staff of Stockton Residential Home also survive. Morgan, 92, of Stockton Residential Home, Roan Mountain, formerly of 218 Stuarts Street, Roan Mountain, who died Wednesday, February 13, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, February 15, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Tull Oaks Jr. officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 16, in the Garland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bob Blackwell, Keith Blackwell, Dickey Buckner, Larry Stidhoms, Lee Markland and Gregg Winebarger. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Blackwell, John Campbell, John Campbell Jr., Brandon Campbell, Zeb Honeycutt, James Smith, Jimmy Norwood, Dr. E.H. Smith, Fred Moore Jr., Fred Moore Sr., residents and staff of Stockton Residential Home and members of the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
