CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Nelson Morgan, 25 Mar 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Nelson Morgan, 83, Roaring Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an extended illness. Mr. Morgan was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Rosencranse and Dovie Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Reva Hughes Morgan, a sister, Shirley Jean Tipton, and a brother, Albert Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a member of Morgan Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired school bus driver for the Carter County School System, after 33 years of service. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Lloyd Potter, Roan Mountain; a granddaughter and her husband, Rebecca and Gary Wayne Honeycutt, Roan Mountain; a step-granddaughter and her husband, Kathy and Dave Brown, Elizabethton; a step-grandson, Julius "Peanut" Oaks, Elizabethton; 11 great-grandchildren, with special mention of Michael, Chris, Brandon and Samantha; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Morgan Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Whitehead and the Rev. Billy Morgan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Minia Street, pianist, and ladies of the church. Interment will follow the funeral service at Captain Nelson Cemetery (Ripshin Community), Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Chris Honeycutt, Dave Morgan, Willie Morgan, Tommy Guinn, Bob Whitehead and James Honeycutt. Honorary pallbearers will be Willard Elliott, Jimmy Orr and Garfield "Ook" Freeman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain. Friends may call at the residence any time.
