Morton William Henry Morton, 73, 2403 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Morton was a native of Carter County and the son of the late William H. and Emma Ledford Morton. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Meredith, Vester and Pete Morton; a sister, Nellie Sherfey; two daughters, Patsy and Karen; and a granddaughter, Jeannie Morton. Mr. Morton was a member of Upper Gap Creek Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as choir leader and deacon for 53 years, and was also the leader for the Upper Gap Creek Quartet. He was retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 43 years of service as a Supervisor in Vinyl Coating. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Culler Morton, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Lucelia Morton, Hampton; two daughters and sons- in-law, Brenda and Claude Hart, Elizabethton, and Debbie and Tim Miller, Wise, Va.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Blanche McKeehan, Elizabethton, and Dean and Johnny Reed, Jonesville, N.C.; two grandsons and a granddaughter-in- law, Chris and Melissa Hart and David Hart; three granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Kristie and Matt Cormany, Julie Hart and Bethany Miller; and three great-grandsons, Samuel, Joshua and Noah Cormany. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, (423) 543-4917, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick MORTON -- Funeral services for William Henry Morton, 73, 2403 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, February 7, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, February 9, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Allen Simerly and the Rev. Roy Whitson officiating, and the Rev. Danny Simerly, honorary minister. Music will be under the direction of Bobby McGee. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, at Lyons Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richard Lewis, Darrell Guinn, Joe Copas, Keith Lyons, Teddy Simerly, Glenn Henegar and Dexter Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Upper Gap Creek Free Will Baptist Church and men he worked with at North American Rayon Corporation. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Saturday for the graveside services. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
