CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - William Oscar Morton, 14 Aug 1994 ----¤¤¤---- Obituary appeared in the Monday, August 15, 1994 Elizabethton Star William Oscar Morton, 75, Rt. 2, Hampton, died Sunday, August 14, 1994, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, following an extended illness. Mr. Morton was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Loss and Mollie Johnson Morton. Mr. Morton was a member and former janitor of the Union Baptist Church and a retired employee with 45 years of service in the second unit spinning at North American Rayon Corporation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Merle Alene Hicks Morton of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Doug Ranshaw and Velma and Glen Tester, all of Hampton, a sister, Dollie Church of Elizabethton; and three grandchildren, Scot Tester, Travis Ranshaw and Tiffany Ranshaw, all of Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charger of the arrangements. Funeral services for William Oscar Morton, 75, Rt. 2. Hampton, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Union Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Ray Beal, Rev. Haskel Ingram and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Union Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Paul Leonard, Richard Tester, E.C. Vines, Martin Bennett, Jerry Nave, Sam Grindstaff, Arthur Lunceford, Glen Church, Gene Church, David Campbell and Jimmy Matherly. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Union Baptist Church, Ron Rierce, Bill Estep, Dewey Hicks, Keith Hicks, Larry Hicks, Sonny Wilson, Troy White, Jack Ingram, Bill Campbell, Bob Hicks, Harold Rainbolt, Claude Campbell, Clyde Campbell and James Norris. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends amy also call at the home and at the home of his daughters, Mrs. Glenda Ranshaw and Mrs. Velma Tester, Rt. 2, Hampton at any time.
