CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Josephine E. "Jo" Chambers Mottern, 23 Apr 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Josephine E. Mottern Mrs. Josephine E. "Jo" Chambers Mottern, 90, formerly of Cedar Avenue, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in Elgin, Texas. Mrs. Mottern was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Walter N. and Ella Ruth Davis Chambers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Ellis Mottern, June 16, 1997, and two sisters, Ona C. Love and Mamie C. Burrough. Mrs. Mottern was a retired LPN at the Green Valley Developmental Center, Greeneville. Following her retirement, she had taught Nursing at the Tennessee Technology Center in Elizabethton. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Elizabethton, the Sycamore Chapter #163 Order of the Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Confederacy of the State of Tennessee and was a member of the Elizabethton Business and Professional Women's Club for several years. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Judith Mottern, Elgin, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Gary Clark, Mt. Juliet; three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Ron Mottern, Elgin, Texas, Scott and Fran Mottern, Lewisville, Texas, and Blake and Amanda Clark, Avondale, Ariz.; and two granddaughters and grandsons-in- law, Leah Jo and Alex Velarde, Pensacola, Fla., and Elise and David Aungst, Barrington, N.J. Three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. MOTTERN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine E. "Jo" Chambers Mottern, 90, formerly of Cedar Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Dr. Don Marshall, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of David Arney, organist. Entombment will follow the funeral service in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Fine, Sonny Mottern, Jack "Dick" Reynolds and grandsons, Alex Velarde, Blake Clark, David Aungst, Ron Mottern and Scott Mottern. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, prior to the service.
