CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - James Floyd Markland, 10 Dec 2002 ----¤¤¤---- James F. Markland James Floyd Markland, 90, 1126 Bluefield Avenue, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the residence of a son and daughter-in- law, David R. and Nioka Markland, Elizabethton. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles David and Bertha Elizabeth Jordan Markland. Mr. Markland had lived in Michigan for 28 years before returning to Elizabethton in 1999. He was a retired pipe fitter with General Motors in Detroit. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #22, Detroit. Mr. Markland was also a member of the West Gate Cyrus Masonic Lodge #520 of West Branch, Mich. He was a member of the Southside Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eval Carol Markland in 1999; by a son, James H. Markland, and a sister, Carrie Markland. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and Edward Hester, Johnson City, and Elizabeth Owens, Orange Park, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Nioka Markland, of the home; two sisters, Louise Deloach and Janelle Nidiffer, both of Elizabethton; three brothers, George "Ed" Markland and Bobby J. Markalnd, both of Elizabethton, and Howard Markland, Flushing, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. MARKLAND -- Funeral services for James Floyd Markland, 90, who died Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the residence of his son and daughter- in-law, David R. and Nioka Markland, 1126 Bluefield Avenue, Elizabethton, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2002 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Burleson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Rick Melton, Donnie Davenport, and Mary Grindstaff will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday will be David Markland II, Donnie Newell, Jerry Jenkins, Lynn Markland, Edward Hester, and Rick Bowling. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Fenner and his staff; Dr. David Heckt and his staff, and the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A special "thank you" to the following people: house calls of Hampton and Hospice of Elizabethton and Donnie and Sandra Newll. Also surviving are his special great grandchildren, Rickie Berry and Josh Berry. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Nioka Markland, 1126 Bluefield Avenue, Elizabethton. Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 will conduct a memorial service following the funeral service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
