CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ruth M. Mitchell, 7 Dec 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Ruth M. Mitchell Mrs. Ruth M. Mitchell, 79, formerly of 124 Brandywine Place, Elizabethton, died Saturday, December 7, 2002 in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. Mrs. Mitchell was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Heaton Montgomery. She was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation with 42 years of service. She was a member of East River Park Christian Church. She was preceded in death by one sister, Alma Banner, and three brothers, Quentin Montgomery, Walter Montgomery, and Wayne Montgomery. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Earl J. Mitchell, of the home; two sisters, Edith Phillips and Anne Gregg, both of Elizabethton; three brothers, Ray Montgomery, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Lee Montgomery, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Carroll Montgomery, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews; one "adopted" daughter, Anita Joan Flinders, Lucasville, Ohio, and a special friend, Betty Taylor, of Elizabethton, also survive. Mitchell, 79, formerly of 124 Brandywine Place, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, December 7, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2002 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. John Smith, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. John and Mary Smith. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Hobart Mitchell, Patrick Roper, Gene Grindstaff, John Rominger, Ray O'Quinn, and Ardin "Kayo" Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be men of East River Park Christian Church, doctors and nursing staff of Life Care Center, Elizabethton; Glen Reynolds, and "Dub" Elmore Williams, former co-workers of North American Rayon Corporation; Ladies Council of Valley Forge Christian Church, and loving neighbors of Lynn Valley Baptist Church. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
