Neece John H. "Tommy" Neece, age 81, of 132 Greendale Road, Johnson City, went home to be with his Lord Thursday, May 4, 2006, in Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Eliza Ritchie Neece. Mr. Neece was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. Mr. Neece earned his B.S. degree in vocational agriculture from University of Tennessee and master's degree in education from E.T.S.U. He served as a vocational agriculture teacher, assistant principal, school superintendent, and superintendent of the Tennessee Technology Center, Elizabethton. He was a director of Nave Para-Medical Center, Elizabethton, and served 12 years on the Carter County Board of Education. He was an avid farmer and owned and operated Neece Strawberry Farm. Mr. Neece served with the US Navy during WW II. Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Norma Elliott Neece of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Marilyn Neece, Greeneville, and Steven and Debbie Neece, Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Leslie and husband Chris Hedges, and John Douglas Neece, all of Johnson City; one great-granddaughter, Laci Hedges, Johnson City; one brother and sister-in-law, Elwood and Jane Neece, Lillian, Ala.; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Nova Elliott, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Neece will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 7, in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with the Rev. Gary Thacker and the Rev. John Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ted Maxwell, Charlie Bayless, Jack Pearman, Wayne Scott, Joe McClain, Jack Street and Richard Renfro. Honorary pallbearers will be T.J. Sparks, Tulsa Street, Bob Grant, Allan Ballard, Victor Hopson, Olen Pate, Steve Payne and T.J. Elliott. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Olive and the doctors and nursing staff of ICU, Johnson City Medical Center for their care of Mr. Neece and the love they extended to the family during his illness.
