CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Anna Ruth McKinney Nelson, 23 Sep 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Anna Nelson Anna Ruth McKinney Nelson, 76, South Roan Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 in the Pine Ridge Care Center. A native of Dickenson County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Pink and Maude Matherly McKinney. She had lived in Carter County for the past 64 years. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the VFW Post #2166 Ladies' Auxiliary, having served as president for 12 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Joey Burrow; a granddaughter, Carla Bowers; a grandson-in- law, Chris King, and a sister, Audrey Duty. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband, Joe C. Nelson; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol and Raymond Bowers; Sandra and Fred Hyder, and Karen Margo Nelson, all of Elizabethton; one son, Michael Joe Nelson, Elizabethton; two sisters, Lena Moore and Mildred Campbell, both of Elizabethton; two brothers, Charles McKinney, of Port Orange, Fla. and Bill McKinney, Elizabethton; four granddaughters: Elizabeth Richardson and her husband, Danny; Tina Reece and her husband, Tim, and Angela King, all of Elizabethton; Penny Hyder, Johnson City; one grandson and his wife, Chris and Leia Hyder, of Dandridge, Tenn., and three great granddaughters, Randi Richardson, Chrissie King and Laura King. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Anna Nelson will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2003 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday will be Scott Campbell, Jerry Moore, Rick Moore, Danny Richardson, Tim Reece, Mitch Stansberry, Fred Hyder, Raymond (Bud) Bowers and Pat Smith. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the staff and employees of Pine Ridge Care Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at her residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
