Norris Nettie Townsend Norris, 95, formerly of Village East Apartments, Elizabethton, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late J.B. and Sally Elizabeth Hampton Johnson. She was a homemaker and the oldest member of Harmony Baptist Church. Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Townsend, and her second husband, Rod Norris, two daughters, Jean Glover and Betty Cravens, four sisters and three brothers. Survivors include one daughter, Sue Norris, Elizabethton, Tenn., one son, Bill Townsend, Elizabethton, Tenn., one sister, Georgia Owens, Bristol, Va.; 12 grandchildren, Cathy Dunn and Sandra Rainy, both of Fall Branch, Tenn., Linda Waters, Greer, S.C., Eddie Cravens, Columbia, S.C., Lisa Banks, Telford, Tenn., Connie Glover, James Glover, Kevin Glover, Nadine Jackson, and Lee Norris, all of Elizabethton, William Townsend, Hampton, Tenn., and Johnny Norris, Johnson City, Tenn.; 21 great- grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, seven step great-grandchildren, one special friend, Ann Townsend Stepp, Hampton, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ann Townsend Stepp. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m.. on Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton. Pallbearers will be Dave Hatley, Shad Burchett, grandsons and great-grandsons. Everyone will meet at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday evening, Sept. 10, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, or at the residence of her daughter, Sue Norris, Highway 91, Hayes Trailer Park, Lot No. 2, Elizabethton, Tenn.
