Norwood Joseph Garland Norwood, 71, formerly of Blevins Avenue, Elizabethton, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the James H. Quillen VA Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. Mr. Norwood was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Joe Norwood and Vivian Viola Watson Norwood Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Rose Marie Hairston. Mr. Norwood was a retired employee of T.V.A. and was a member of the Iron Worker's Union. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean conflict. Survivors include five daughters, Vickie Henderson, Elizabethton, Bonnie Henderson, Hampton, Va., Patricia Norwood, Elizabethton, Audrey Norwood, Saint Petersburg, Fla., and Vivian Norwood, Elizabethton; three sons, Gregory Love, Morristown, Joseph Allen Norwood, Elizabethton, and Jamie Norwood, Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and James "Chick" Forney, Elizabethton, and Lelia Randall, Indianapolis, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, Tony, Tonya, Yolanda, Cedrick, Jessica, Jasmine, Shanequa, Nikolai, Zachary, Mackenzie, Alexander, Alona and Sierra Rose; three great-grandchildren; and a special cousin and friend, Joan Avery, Elizabethton. Leroy Parsons and the Rev. Timothy Watterson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Loretta Bowers Newton. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Burleson and McKinney Brothers Heating & Cooling. A special "thank you" to Pine Ridge Care Center, James H. Quillen V.A. Extended Care Facility, Life Care Center of Elizabethton and Special Memories of the Caudill Family. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
