Clarence B. Oaks

Clarence Boone Oaks, 86, Bear Branch Road, Roan Mountain, died 
Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Oaks was a native of Carter County and the son of the late John and 
Bessie Whittington Oaks. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, 
Louise Lindsey; three sons, John Oaks, Mack Oaks and Clarence Junior 
Oaks; three sisters, Myrtle Hanna, Stella Bryant and Frankie Paregoric; 
and three brothers, Wheeler Oaks, Earnest Oaks and Champ Oaks.
Mr. Oaks was a member of Taylor's Chapel Church of Christ. He was a retired 
employee of the Veterans Administration, Mountain Home, TN and was a U.S. 
Army veteran, having served in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Oaks, of the home; six daughters, Wilma 
O'Connor, Whiting, Ind., Carolyn Quesada, Mesa, Ariz., Valorie Duke, 
Griffith, Ind., Elizabeth Koon, Little Mountain, S.C., Jeanette Penix, 
Piney Flats, and Gail Westberry, Jesup, Ga.; and two sons, Gregory Oaks, 
Roan Mountain, and Jerry Oaks, Waxhaw, N.C. Thirty-two grandchildren, 35 
great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

OAKS -- Funeral services for Clarence Boone Oaks, 86, Bear Branch Road, 
Roan Mountain, who died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, will be conducted at 2 p.m. 
Friday, March 14, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan 
Mountain, with Pastor Richard Bawgus and the Rev. Brian Shell officiating. 
Interment will follow the funeral service in Taylor's Chapel Cemetery, Elk 
Park, N.C. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom 
VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Mack Allen Oaks, Mark Campbell, 
Tommy Shell, Allen Koon, Billy Duke, Matthew Shell, Jeffery Duke and Daniel 
Shell. Honorary pallbearers will be Carver Elijah Koon, Clint Shell, Scotty 
Shell, Jonathan Shell, Timothy Duke, Johnny Oaks, Mack Oaks, Michael Oaks, 
Jarrett Oaks, Branden Oaks and Anthony Oaks. The family will receive friends 
from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home.
