Clyde Oaks 

Clyde Oaks, age 71, Buck Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Saturday, 
September 13, 2003, at his residence, following an extended illness. 
A native of Avery County, N.C., he was the son of the late Floyd and 
Pearl A. Adkins Oaks. Mr. Oaks was a member of Morgan Branch Free Will 
Baptist Church and was self employed as a carpenter and block layer. He 
was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean conflict. 
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hill Oaks, of the home; four daughters: 
Vicky Roberts, Spruce Pine, N.C., Pamela Stout and Deborah Potter, both of 
Roan Mountain and Donna Oaks, Marion, N.C.; two sons, Sammy Oaks, Elk Park, 
N.C., and Johnny Oaks, Elizabethton; two sisters, Clarice Hodge, Asheville, 
N.C., and Anna Mae Jones, Morganton, N.C.; one brother, Terry Lyons, Roan 
Mountain; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Several nieces and 
nephews also survive. 
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, September 15, at 
Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, with the Rev. Doug Ranshaw 
officiating. Music is under the direction of Louse Bryant. Interment will 
follow in the Caraway Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from 
family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday, 
prior to the service, or at the residence, 198 Buck Creek Road, Roan Mountain, 
at any time. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations 
to the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton,
