CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Nola Irene Odom, 4 Aug 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Nola I. Odom Nola Irene Odom, 70, Berry Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, August 4, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Odom was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Tom and Polly Presnell Birchfield. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Jay "Cowboy" Odom, of the home; six sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and JoAnn Odom, Elizabethton, Monty and Linda Odom, Cleveland, Texas, Steve Odom and Vicky Odom, Cleveland, Texas, Allen and Marianne Odom, Asheville, N.C., Jay Wesley and Alice Odom, Elizabethton, and Scott and Phyllis Odom, Elizabethton; one daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Michael Teague, Lenoir, N.C.; three sisters and spouses, Bobbie and Jim Anderson, Betty and Howard Waters and Regina Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; one brother and spouse, David and Jennie Birchfield, Elizabethton; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three very special close friends, Shirley Long, Hazel Chambers and Ann Nave, sister-in-law; and not a few nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, at Stout Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Odom's sons, sons-in-law and Odell Cable. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Odom's brother and brothers-in-law, Chuck Mathes and Howard Holtsclaw Jr. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
