CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Lewis W. Odom, 5 Apr 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Lewis W. Odom Lewis W. Odom, 77, Howard Lipford Drive, Elizabethton, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 in the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Carter County on September 15, 1925 to the late Waitzel and Sally Hill Odom. He had lived in Elizabethton most of his life. He was of the Baptist faith. A World War II veteran, he proudly served for six years as a rifleman in the United States Army with the 47th Infantry Regiment 9th Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, The World War II Victory Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. Mr. Odom was a machinist for North American Rayon Corporation, having retired in 1985 after 21 years of service. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters and 14 half brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Jennette McCurry Odom; hree daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn Pullum, of Fayetteville, N.C.; Kathy and Cliff LaFond, of Summerville, S.C., and Gerda and Jacob Oster, of Munich, Germany; one son, Randy Odom, of Fayetteville, N.C.; six grandchildren, ENS Sean Washington, of NAS Pensacola, Fla.; David Peters and wife, Shonda, of Lexington, Ky.; Michelle Odom Pickett and husband, Brad, of Memphis; Nikki LaFond Kreciewski and husband, Paul (Spc. U.S. Army, Operation in Iraq), Darmstadt, Germany, and Jason LaFond and wife, Tamara, of Morganton, N.C., and Sabine Oster, of Munich, Germany; three great grandchildren, Chloe and Peyton Lafond and Jacob Pickett, and a very special friend, Yvonne Crowe, and husband, Dean, of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, and many close friends also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, is in charge of arrangements. ODOM -- Funeral services for Lewis W. Odom, 77, Howard Lipford Drive, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, April 5, 2003 will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry McCurry officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at noon Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday will be David Peters, Sean Washington, Randy Berg, Cliff LaFond, Jackie Heaton, Rickey Heaton, and Bradley Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Campbell, John Burrough, Roby Carver, Bob Smith, and Michael Ward. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. V.F.W. Post #2166 will provide military graveside honors. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
