Oliver Johnnie S. Oliver, 74, 137 Daniel Lane, Elizabethton, died Thursday, November 23, 2000, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Oliver was a native of Carter County and the son of the late George and Eva Teague Oliver. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Oliver, George Oliver Jr. and Robert Carl Oliver, and two sisters, Dellis White and Annie Proffitt. Mr. Oliver was a retired painter from Gardner Paint Service, Inc. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force, and a member of Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Survivors include his wife, Manilla Oliver, of the home; a son, Larry "Butch" Oliver, Elizabethton; a grandson, Johnny Scott Oliver, Elizabethton; a great-grandson, Johnny Scott Oliver II, Elizabethton; a brother, William Paul "Bud" Oliver, Hampton; and four sisters, Retis Saults, Jackson, S.C., Gladys Ward, Elizabethton, Kathleen Kelley and Linda Sue Rogoshewski, both of Jacksonville, Fla. Oliver, 74, 137 Daniel Lane, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, November 23, 2000, were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 25, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Haskel Ingram officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 26, at Teague Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Oncology Department of James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital and Doctors and Nurses in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Nursing Center. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 137 Daniel Lane, Elizabethton, at any time.
