CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - George L. Oliver, 6 Oct 1977 ----¤¤¤---- Obituary appeared in the Friday, October 7, 1977 Elizabethton Star George L. Oliver, 95, Rt. 2, Hampton, died Thursday morning at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Bob and Annie Jolley Olliver, a member of Union Baptist Church, and a retired farmer. Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Belle Teague Oliver, in March, 1964, and by a son, James Oliver, in July, 1975. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Retis Saults, Jackson, S.C., Mrs. Dellis White, Rt. 8, Elizabethton, Mrs. Annie Proffitt, Knoxville, Mrs. Gladys Ward, Rt. 2, Hampton, Mrs. Kathleen Kelley, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Sue Johnson, Jacksonville, Fla., and four sons, Johnny Oliver, Orchard St., Elizabethton, George Oliver, Jr., Paul Oliver and Robert Oliver all of Rt. 2, Hampton. Thirty grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Funeral services for George L. Oliver, 95, Rt. 2, Hampton, who died Thursday morning at his residence, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday from Union Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Ishee and Rev. Haskell Ingram, Jr., officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Oliver Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Haynes Norris, Gary Shingleton, Clyde Moore, Sanford Morton, Gerald Stevens and Ronald Pierce. The family will receive friends in the chapel of the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday, at which time it will be taken to the Church to await the service hour.
