CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - William F. "Bill" Oxendine Sr., 13 Jul 2002 ----¤¤¤---- William F. Oxendine Sr. William F. "Bill" Oxendine Sr., 81, 2471 Roaring Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital, Linville, N.C., following an extended illness. Mr. Oxendine was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Charles and Bessie Hopson Oxendine. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Corinth Heaton Oxendine, in 1957, and by several brothers and sisters. Mr. Oxendine was a member of Roan Mountain United Methodist Church. He was a retired millwight from Daniel Construction Company and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Doris Lyons Oxendine, of the home; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary and Harry Franz, Knoxville, Edrie "Jody" and Kenneth Bristol, Hampton, Anita Baker and Billie Oxendine, both of Roan Mountain, and Anna and Darrell Tolley, Elizabethton; a son, William Oxendine Jr., Roan Mountain; two sisters, Florence Forbes and Minnie Belle Hughes, both of Elizabethton; and three brothers, Ray "Doc" Oxendine, Roan Mountain, Charles "Bud" Oxendine and Hassell Oxendine, both of Concord, N.C. "Bill" Oxendine Sr., 81, 2471 Roaring Creek Road, Roan Mountain, who died Saturday, July 13, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, July 15, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Billy Morgan and the Rev. Don Julian officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Peters Cemetery on Ripshin. Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons: Brian Franz, Craig Franz, Chris Howard, Joe Howard, James Howard, Greg Bristol, Darrell Tolley Jr., and a friend, Paul VerEllen. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Glen Johnson, Richard "Pete" Johnson, Dr. Roger Heschong and Ronnie Street. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
