John A. Pansock Major John A. Pansock, Tennessee Army National Guard (retired), 82, formerly of Bailey Road in the Gap Creek Community, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness. Major Pansock was the son of the late Mike Sr. and Mary Yanok Pansock. Although he was a native of Lynch, Ky., he had lived most of his life in Elizabethton. Major Pansock was a devout member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Elizabethton, where he was active in the Knights of Columbus and was a Reader and Eucharist Minister. Major Pansock graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1942. He was a teacher at both Elizabethton High School and Hampton High School with over 30 years of teaching experience and was a member of the Elizabethton High School Sports Hall of Fame. Major Pansock was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was the Company Commander of B Co., 117th Infantry Division of the Tennessee Army National Guard from 1956 to 1960. He loved country and big band music. He loved doing things for others, supporting others who worked for the poor, and farming. In addition to his parents, Major Pansock was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Pansock; his sisters, Mary Giesler, Anna Borchin and Susan Rotkis; and his niece, Linda Patrick. Survivors include his sister, Helen Jones Carter of Telford; sister-in- law, Juanita Pansock of Elizabethton; nieces, Susie Johns of Johnson City, Anne Pansock and Teresa Robinson and husband Randall, all of Elizabethton; nephews, Michael Pansock and wife Anita of Piney Flats, John "Bo" Pansock and wife Chris of Elizabethton, Michael Giesler of Orlando, Fla., Charles Rotkis and wife Judy of Lancaster, Ohio and David Whitaker and wife Janice of Gray; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and his special, dear and loving friend, Alma Range of Elizabethton. The Mass of Resurrection for Major Pansock will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church with Father Dennis Kress and Father Charles Burton officiating. Active pallbearers for the Mass of Resurrection will be members of the Knights of Columbus. The graveside and interment service will be conducted following the Mass at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Full Military Honors accorded by the Tennessee Army National Guard. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, on Friday, October 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. and also from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. Friends may also call at the home of his sister-in-law, Juanita Pansock, 827 Walnut Street, Elizabethton, at other times. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeast Tennessee Chapter, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 1050, Johnson City, TN 37601.
