Mr. Patton was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County and the son of the late Maurice and Margaret Anderson Patton. Mr. Patton was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II, and was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of Hopwood Memorial Christian Church, where he served as elder and trustee, and had also served as treasurer for 47 years. Mr. Patton was a member of the Cattleman's Association, the East Tennessee Antique Engine Association, Board of Directors of Tennessee Farm Bureau, Board of Directors of the Growers Co-op, Board Member of West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department and member of the Board of Directors of Patton- Simmons Cemetery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Patton; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Patton, who were all early residents of the Milligan Community. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Patton of Johnson City and Helen Potter and husband James of Johnson City; two sons, Ben Patton and wife Teresia of Milligan and Robert Patton of Johnson City; grandchildren, Rida Ann Potter and Andrew Patton; two nieces, Allie Reeve and Fran Burgner; and nephews, Neil Burgner, Gerald Burgner and Wayne Brown. The funeral service for Mr. Patton will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, in the sanctuary of Hopwood Memorial Christian Church with Mr. Tim Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be the men of Hopwood Memorial Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department, 1420 Milligan Highway, Johnson City, TN, 37601 or to Hopwood Memorial Christian Church, Milligan College, TN.
