A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late David Norman Peeks Sr. and Eliza Bowers Peeks. In his earlier years, Mr. Peeks was a self-employed plumber and pipe fitter. In later years he owned and operated Peeks Used Cars. Mr. Peeks was instrumental in starting Cross Roads in Carter County and he served on the Board of Directors for several years. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a Disabled American Veteran. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Eldred Peeks, and two sisters, Rosella Peeks and Novella McKinney. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Norma and Cecil Hill, Roan Mountain, Pamela and Joseph Perry, Piedmont, S.C., Teresa Norris, Elizabethton, and Jerri Sue Beeson, Johnson City; five grandchildren, James Kenneth Watson Jr., David Russell Watson, Bradley Shane Peeks, Sara Michelle Loudermilk and Whitney Layne Norris; a sister, Crystal Gay, Pensacola, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Georgia Peeks; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Judy Mears, Apopka, Fla.; a nephew, Joe McKinney, Miami, Fla.; and a great-nephew, Kenny Mears, Apopka, Fla. Funeral services for Mr. Peeks will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Art Webb officiating. Music will be provided by Kenny Lethcoe. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Bowers Cemetery (Siam Community). Active pallbearers will be Cecil Hill, James Watson, Joseph Perry, Lanny Norris, Bradley Peeks and David Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Carol Procter and Staff and patients of the First Floor of the VA Nursing Home. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post #2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
