Phipps Mildred Curd Phipps, 83, of Watauga, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008, at her residence. Born in Carter County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Lola Humphreys Curd. Mrs. Phipps was a member of Lynnwood Christian Church. She had a very strong faith and enjoyed singing and listening to the choir. She was the owner of Mildred's Beauty Shop for 30 years before retiring. Known as an excellent seamstress, she loved flowers and gardening and had already harvested produce. Mrs. Phipps truly felt that everyone should live every day to the fullest and to be happy always. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brown H. Phipps, and two brothers, Roy Curd and Glen Curd. Survivors include her daughter, Diana Nave and husband Richard of Piney Flats; two sons, Brownie Phipps and wife Brenda of Watauga and Jack Phipps and wife Brenda of Johnson City; three brothers: Raymond Curd of Piney Flats, J.C. Curd of Watauga and Bennie Curd of Piney Flats; six grandchildren, Leslie Meredith and Sherri Montgomery of Elizabethton, Gayla Bolton of Johnson City, Paula Schumpert of Fort Mill, S.C., Jeff Nave of Piney Flats and Kerry Phipps of Watauga; five great-grandchildren, Johnny and Wesley Bolton of Johnson City, Trey and Trent Schumpert of Fort Mill, S.C., and Makayla Phipps of Watauga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Phipps will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Tetrick Funeral Services in Johnson City with Mr. Tommy Joe Andrews and Mr. Chris Gilbert officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m., prior to the service. A committal service will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard Nave, Kerry Lee Phipps, Jeff Nave, Bryan Montgomery, John Bolton, Derrill Schumpert Jr. and Kenny Webb.
