Potter Shirley Rose Stout Potter, 85, 3105 Siam Road, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Betty Smith Stout. Mrs. Potter was a homemaker and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Potter was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Potter; her stepmother, Nell Ballard Stout; an infant son; and a sister, Juanita Brown. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Janet Potter of Elizabethton and Kirk and Jewel Potter of Cranberry, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Troutman of Elizabethton; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mable Banner of Elizabethton. The funeral service for Mrs. Potter will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, February 5, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Storie officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, in the Potter Cemetery in the Buck Mountain Community. Friends and family are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday to travel together in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Randy Potter, Donnie Potter, Jake Potter, Daniel Potter, Taylor Potter, Todd Troutman, Tim Troutman and Josh Troutman. The family would like to give special and sincere thanks to Dr. Gastineau and the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center for their wonderful and loving care of Mrs. Potter during her illness.
