Potter Jr. John Calvin Potter Jr., 72, 4092 Pea Ridge Road, Lawndale, N.C., died at his residence Thursday, April 19, 2007, after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John Calvin Potter Sr. and Hattie Rosemond Halcomb Potter. Mr. Potter was a retired employee of the Ford Motor Company, Cleveland, Ohio. He moved to North Carolina in 1985. He was a Mason. He loved to work on older cars. In addition to his parents, Mr. Potter was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlcie Ollis and Edith Price; a brother, Willie T. Potter, and his wife, Rebecca; and a brother-in-law, Bill Hall. Survivors include his wife, Mary Spence Potter; a daughter, Kathy Potter, Lawndale, N.C.; two sons, Rodger Potter, Burbank, Ohio, and Darrell Potter, Lawndale, N.C.; a grandson, Sam Potter; a granddaughter, Brittiane Potter; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Potter; four sisters, Minnie McMahan, Hampton, Princie McPeek and her husband Hern, Myra, Ky., Morell Hall, Elizabethton, and Sue Hurst and her husband Harry, Dandridge, Tenn.; and a brother, Edward Potter, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Potter will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
