Mr. Potter was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William and Artie Harmon Potter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Potter, and two sisters, Novella Adams and Dot Kirby. Mr. Potter was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a retired employee of Lewis Wood Products. Survivors include three sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia Lee Potter Bowling, Elizabethton, Lucy Lyons, Columbia, S.C., and Wanda and Lewis Pogue, Plant City, Fla.; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ken and Lennice Potter and Grover Potter, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Potter will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Eddy Craft officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be, L.D. Fair, Steve Roberts, Arlie Vaughn, Willie Holtsclaw, Maynard Jenkins, John R. Campbell, Danny Garrison and Kenneth Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Harmond, Robert Dugger, Allen Dugger and the Nursing Staff at Pine Ridge Care Center. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, and other times at the home of a sister, Virginia Bowling, 619 Walnut Street, Elizabethton.
