Mrs. Potter was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Hamp and Ardie Heaton Brewer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Potter, three grandchildren, five brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Potter was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Oliver, Henry and Ronald Potter, all of Roan Mountain; five daughters, Kathy Hamby, Mary Odom, Ruby Matheson and Wilma Chappell, all of Roan Mountain, and Joyce Odom, Butler; one brother, Lester Brewer, Elizabethton; one sister, Ailene Webb, Johnson City; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Potter will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, December 2, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Jim Storie officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charlotte Smith. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 3, at Markland Hill Cemetery in the Buck Mountain community. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday to travel together in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the home of her daughter, Kathy Hamby, 474 New Buck Mountain Road, Roan Mountain, at other times.
