Mrs. Pate was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Alfred and Evelyn Britt Grindstaff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Pate, in 1983, a son, Carl Pate, and by four brothers and a sister. Mrs. Pate was a member of Powder Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and two daughters-in-law, Dayton Tony and Wanda Pate, Johnson City, and Carla Pate, Hickory, N.C.; a grandson, Tom Pate, Johnson City; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Karen and Robert Knight, Hickory, N.C.; and two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Iris Knight, both of Hickory, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. PATE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Pate, 91, 1495 Powder Branch Road, Johnson City, who died Tuesday, November 21, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Perkins officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 23, in the Lyons Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Thursday. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
