Payne Clifford Glen Payne, 93, 824 Walnut Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, May 18, 2001, in the Hermitage Nursing Home. A native of Madison County, N.C., he was a son of the late James and Ida Bryan Payne. He moved to Elizabethton 10 years ago from Michigan. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Payne, in 1998. He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. of Detroit. Mr. Payne was a member of Watauga First Baptist Church and attended Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Jack Beauchamp, Dearborn, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Margie Payne, LaVonia, Mich.; two sisters, Billie Hart, Elizabethton; and Grace Allen, Asheville, N.C.; one brother, Tom R. Payne, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and special friends Dwight and Doris Cope and Thomas and Gail Grindstaff. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. PAYNE -- Funeral services for Clifford Glen Payne, 93, 824 Walnut Street, Elizabethton, who died Friday, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Art Webb and Jackie Cole officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Walnut Methodist Church Cemetery, Marshall, N.C. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens. A special "Thank you" to the staff of Hermitage Nursing Home. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
