Mrs. Penix was a native of Carter County and the daughter of Mrs. Ollie Shipley Massengill, Watauga, and the late William Massengill. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ervin Miller; her second husband, Sam Penix; a brother, Raymond Massengill; and three sisters, Dollie Hardin, Marie Ward and Cora Hurst. Mrs. Penix was a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. Survivors include two sons, David Miller, Bluff City, and Billy D. Massengill, Bristol; a daughter, Patsy Adams, Madinah, Ill.; a sister, Edith Coefer, Watauga; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lawrence Rasnick, Elizabethton. PENIX -- Funeral services for Viola Penix, 80, 219 Highway 19E, Bluff City, who died Thursday, April 5, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mr. Ernie Depew, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Clay and Shirley Nelson. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at Morrell Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Leonard Adams, David Adams, Robert Miller, Alan Sparks, Jimmy Coefer and Sonny Hedges. Honorary pallbearers will be W.I. Perry Jr., extended family at Bunker Hill Christian Church, Ferren Hicks and Mike Smith. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Saturday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 219 Highway 19E, Bluff City, at any time.
