Penley Mrs. Sylvia Turner Penley, 74, 409 Brandon St., Apt. D, Elizabethton, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at her residence following a lengthy illness. A Carter County native, Mrs. Penley was a daughter of the late William and Lizzie Campbell Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Blake Penley, in 1977. Mrs. Penley, along with her late husband, were the owner and operator of Corner Market. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Birchfield, of the home, one sister, Frances Smith, Elizabethton, two grandchildren, Lisa Birchfield and Ricky Birchfield, both of Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews. D., Elizabethton, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at the Lakeview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews and cousins. Honorary pallbearer will be Roy Birchfield. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Monday for the graveside service.
