Perkins 12/21/99 Mrs. Shirley Shell Perkins, 82, formerly of Route 3, Box 809, Roan Mountain, died Sunday, December 19, 1999, at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville, N.C., following an extended illness. Mrs. Perkins was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Hubert and Faithie Shell. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and two grandchildren. Mrs. Perkins was a member of the Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Paris "Jake" Perkins, Roan Mountain; four sons, Gary Perkins, Rodney Perkins and Joe "JC" Perkins, all of Hampton, and Dexter Perkins, Roan Mountain; three daughters, Wanda Frye, Roan Mountain, Deloris Shelton, Jonesborough, and Faye Philyaw, Granite Falls, N.C.; three brothers, Kell Shell, Shawnee, Kansas, Conley Shell and Dale Shell, both of Roan Mountain; and three sisters, Arlys Higgins, Nell Roark and Ruth Ponds, all of Roan Mountain. Twenty-four grandchildren, 44 great- grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick PERKINS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Shell Perkins, 82, formerly of Route 3, Box 809, Roan Mountain, who died Sunday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, with Rev. Jim Storie and Rev. Keith Gwyn officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Charlotte Smith, organist, and The Victory Singers. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Perkins Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Ray Blair, Johnny Hicks, Keith Perkins, David Perkins, James Bowers, Timothy Perkins and Samuel Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhododendron Chapel. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Wanda Frye, Roan Mountain, any time. The family, friends, ministers and pallbearers will meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
