Mr. Perkins was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Joseph and Dora Richardson Perkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Shell Perkins, December 19, 1999, two grandchildren, five brothers and four sisters. Mr. Perkins was a member and deacon of Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was caretaker of the Richardson Cemetery for 40 years. Survivors include four sons, Rev. Gary Perkins, Rodney Perkins and J.C. "Joe" Perkins, all of Hampton, and Dexter Perkins, Roan Mountain, and three daughters, Wanda Frye, Roan Mountain, Deloris Shelton, Jonesborough, and Faye Philyaw, Granite Falls, N.C. Twenty-four grandchildren, 44 great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, (423) 542-2232, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick PERKINS -- Funeral services for Paris "Jake" Perkins, 82, Roan Highlands Nursing Home, formerly of Route 3, Roan Mountain, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Jim Storie and Rev. Keith Gwyn officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Pilgrim Singers. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Perkins Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Steve Blair, Chris Hicks, Keith Perkins, Michael Perkins, Kenneth Bowers, Timothy Perkins and Bradley Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Wanda Frye, 552 Teaberry Road, Roan Mountain, or a son, Rev.
