CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Brooks Clyde Peters, 18 Oct 2002 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Brooks C. Peters Brooks Clyde Peters, 80, 271 Grindstaff Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, October 18, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Peters was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William and Rosa Colbaugh Peters. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Webb, Roy, Clarence, Henry, Thomas, Herman, Walter and Arlie Peters, and a sister, Ella Peters Range. Mr. Peters was retired due to disability from North American Rayon Corporation. He was an assistant Sunday School Teacher of the Adult Class at New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and had taught a Sunday School Class for more than 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Iona Cable Peters; two daughters and sons- in-law, Loretta and Ray Colbaugh and Lora Sue and Wayne Turbyfill, all of Elizabethton; a brother, Fornia Peters, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Kevin Colbaugh, David Turbyfill, Nicole Turbyfill and Kayla Turbyfill; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Brooks Colbaugh and Logan Wayne Turbyfill. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. PETERS -- Funeral services for Brooks Clyde Peters, 80, 271 Grindstaff Hollow Road, Elizabethton, who died Friday, October 18, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, October 20, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and the Rev. Ernest Garland officiating. Music will be provided by the New Liberty Quartet. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 21, in the Grindstaff Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Monday, will be Lynn Peters, Leonard Peters, Gerald Peters, Mike Peters, Dave Turbyfill, Kevin Colbaugh, Nicholas Colbaugh and Lee Gay. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and his "special" friends, Rev. Charlie Whitehead, Kenny Greer, Kenneth Colbaugh, Wayne Peters, Mack Smith and Wayne Turbyfill. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Monday.
